  1. Hi Jon,
    I believe the author's use of the word "bodies" is meant to convey that those of whom he is speaking are, in SPITE of the fact that they are made in God's image, with BOTH a body and a soul, are by some ONLY looked upon as simply material (i.e. bodies). That seems to be the reason for the use of the term "bodies". It does not seem to me (in disagreement with your take) that the author is using the word "bodies" in a self-inflicted dehumanizing way. He is making a rhetorical point.
